I don't know that any song has made me cry, per se, without extreme situational circumstances--like maybe in a movie where sad stuff was happening? BUT I find this song very moving, sad, and sweet.

The youtube video, while I appreciate the effort someone went to, has a lot of background chatter. For an excellent production of the song, go here and listen. (No download necessary.)

I've finally snapped, gone completely mad. I've been moderating [ profile] told_tales for about 3 years now, and in the course of that done over 50 little blurb reviews of fairy tale/mythology/folklore adaptations of one sort or another. So now I've moved all of them to Fairy Layers (cause, get it, richlayers / fairy layers?) on a timed release program. My dream/ideal/goal is to have one every day for... a year? A few years? I certainly read/watch/listen to enough fairy tale adaptations in different mediums. So if people click on a google adsense link, then all the better.

BUT the idea that it would be every day will be key, because people can go anywhere for reviews, and most of them more in depth than mine (especially since I hate spoilers -- even when I already know the story). But a little introduction to something you maybe haven't heard of before? Every day? Nobody has all the exact same cross section of books and movies of things. So. That's my idea.

Feel free to check it out -- there are a couple entries up already and more to come every day! Leave me any feedback you might have or care to comment on, here or there.

In other news, I have been writing quite a bit more (reviews aside) and have one editor holding a poem for possible publication, as well as other things out and about in the world looking for homes. So wish me luck!

I got a little bead crazy and made a bunch of Puss in Boots bracelets. (I know I said I was going to mostly do updates on my Facebook page, but I like LJ so awfully much!)

I went ahead and made a facebook page for my etsy store, so I have somewhere to post updates every time I add something to the store, without a picture spam everywhere all the time. You can "Like" it HERE to get updates on new jewelry, discounts, and special opportunities to win FREE JEWELRY!

Or you can go directly to my etsy shop.

(Can you tell my student job just ended?)

Currently in the shop for just $22, the lovely 12 Dancing Princesses necklace!

This message brought to you by the Corporation for Ladies' Dancing Shoes. Goodnight, everyone!

So I realized I haven't updated since the beginning of April. (Although I have posted some lovely book reviews over at [ profile] told_tales, which you are welcome to check out if you're pining for some Rachel writing.

My grandparents are moving from the farm outside town, where they've lived longer than I've been alive, to a cute little place in town. It's been a long time coming and this week they're wrapping it up -- they should be officially moved in by Friday.

In the meantime, they're trying to get rid of their extra guest bed, so that they have room for THEIR bed. It's a nice queen size mattress, box springs, and frame. I've got it listed on Craigslist so if you're in the area (and you need a bed), check it out:

Meanwhile, I've probably got some things to say in the near future, but for now I'm just gonna go do some practice and then get ready for some kind of Ren Fest thingy.

One of the cool things that happened to me last year, which I've been meaning to write about this year, is that I got published a couple times, once at the beginning of the year at Forge Journal, in their second winter issue.

Then, right at the end of the year, in an anthology of twisted fairy tales, called, aptly enough, Twisted Fairy Tale Anthology. The anthology has been out since the end of the year, but now it's also available on, so if you're more comfortable shopping there, you can easily pick it up! It's also available for kindle at a smaller price.

Very fun stories for anyone who likes twisted tales, and since I have this banner to share, I'll put it up, too!

Good news!

Hey Rachel:

It doesn't have to be twisted, it just has to be something different than what people are used to reading, you know what I mean? Anyway I love the poem. If you can send me a short bio I'll add it to the anthology. Congrats!

I've gotten a few requests and questions about Mom's ever-growing Lord of the Rings collection, so I thought I'd take some pictures and meander on through the books, the other books, and the other things Tolkien-centric in our household.

This seems like a good place to start:
