Several weeks ago,
lisa_schroeder offered up copies of her book,
Far From You, to people who were willing to give them away to friends who were down and needed a pick up in the form of a brand new, signed book. I entered the drawing, knowing that my good friend Sheila loves books and knowing that she's been struggling with balance and migraine problems, taking care of her kids while her husband is working a state away, and not getting to do fun things like go to the bookstore for a treat.
Well,
Lisa picked my entry and shortly after I found myself in possession of a copy signed specially for Sheila.

Over the next week or so, I gathered and put together things that I thought would cheer Sheila up, bring a smile to her face, or just be things that she could enjoy--off by herself for a few minutes, or with her kids. And I must say, the care package turned out pretty nice:
( Detail pictures on a few items... )Then I wrapped it all up in some spring colors and took it off the post office.

Right after I sent the package, this is what Sheila blogged:
So more than a week ago I started with a toothache. I have all my wisdom teeth still so that happens. I'm just dental phobic and terrified of getting anything pulled while I'm awake (can't get put to sleep). So it got worse and worse so I finally got it checked when I started feeling very very sick and my face swelled up. Two of my wisdom teeth were infected. My dentist didn't want to mess with switching my antibiotics so he sent me to my doctor. In the mean time I ended up in urgent care for being severly dehydrated. Then the next night my heart went out of control and I had to call 911 and spend the night at the hospital. Back to the dentist and doctor, and then rushed to an oral surgeon Friday. The infection spread into my face and jaw. So they pulled the worst wisdom tooth on the spot. I have a possible bleeding disorder so they wouldn't do more than one and I got halfway home, and had to turn around and go back and sit there all afternoon to keep getting checked cause the bleeding wouldn't stop. Third antibiotic later and I think I'm finally clearing up! It's making me really sick but it's kicking the infection. Well, after reading that, I was feeling pretty good about the timing of the whole thing. I let her know I'd sent her something and to let me know when she got it, and I was pretty thrilled to get this email a day or two later:
hey, i got your package!!! oh my gosh it was like christmas!!!
i was sitting here feeling sick and all doped up and upset, i was too sick to sleep much last night and just miserable and that cheered me up so much. wait til tiffany gets home. lol.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
you are the best. :)Sheila, I'm glad it helped! That was the idea, after all.
Lisa, thanks for the opportunity to brighten someone's day. (Sorry it took me so long to get the blog together!)
