I've gotten a few requests and questions about Mom's ever-growing Lord of the Rings collection, so I thought I'd take some pictures and meander on through the books, the other books, and the other things Tolkien-centric in our household.

This seems like a good place to start:

My Dad was the original fan in the family. Mom had read the books but never seemed to really be into it, until the movies came out. You've gotta understand, between the two of them, Mom is the much more visual person. Much, much, much. So when the movies came out, she could go back and read the books and picture everything, and for her, that's what really brought the stories to life.

My Dad's old edition:
3 volumes

Each volume came with a full fold out map in the back:

That was the beginning of the collection. Over the years it's grown to fill several shelves just with the books (not to mention "other"):
shelves and shelves

and shelves!
(I forgot that the popcorn tin is also full of memorabilia of one nature or another, so no pictures of those at this time.)

The most prominent bit of the collection is the Blockbuster poster Mom talked our local store out of when the promotions were over:

It took Mom a long time to settle on which edition she wanted for her personal copy, but eventually she went with the Alan Lee illustrated copies, which are quite gorgeous:

Other books, covers, etc (If anyone wants to see more from a particular book, let me know and I'll see what I can do):
books

lost tales

walking books

big books

multimedia

One of my favorite books, and highly recommended for anyone who's a Tolkien fan:
Morris's Romances

And as far as art books, the Hildebrant collection is still some of the best Tolkien artwork there is (sorry about the iffy camera work on these):

An Unexpected Party

Treebeard

Goldberry

One of my favorite scenes:
Eowyn

Oh, and another fun part of the collection (although we're not actually allowed to play with it...):
Monopoly

More Monopoly

So! I think that's everything!

Wow, that's cool! You should post some pictures of those!

My only set is one of those cheap paperback box sets, and it's in storage. Fortunately Mom and Dad have plenty that I can borrow in the meantime...
