Ooh, I had just made a 2007 reading list. I will add on that series right at the top. :)

Does the Well of Lost Plots get going, eventually? I got stuck like 50 pages in, with this feeling that the plot had been lost.

Your bookmark was on page 104, so I don't believe you. :P

Ok, so maybe it was like 104 pages in.

Well, I thought it was wonderful. Whenever the plot slowed down a bit, there was enough wit to keep me laughing and interested. Whenever the witticisms cooled off, there was excitement and adventure. So that's how I felt about it.

You can have it back tonight.

You wanted a link to my list yes? Well here it is.

Hopefully there will be a greater variety of books later. Right now I just look like a war-nut. ;) But I'm writing about art and propaganda, specifically in World War II, so I have little choice.

Just perusing your reading list for the year. How did you like The Princess and the Hound? Worth buying? I don't think the libary here or any in the state's system has it yet and it looks good.

I really enjoyed it. It was very introspective... more savory than fast paced.

I have been liking the savory stories lately. I just finished The Blood of Flowers yesterday. Loved it. I think you might like it too. It takes place in Persia I think...hundreds of years ago and it was just very descriptive and well written and had a fairy tale feel to it.

You should read the one I just finished, The City of Dreaming Books, by Walter Moers. Seriously, anyone who loves books as much as we do has to love that book... it was just wonderful. Possibly one of my favorite books ever, and that's saying a lot!

Thanks, I love book recs. I just went and put it on hold. I should get it soon. :D

I have been really into books that take place in either Asia or the Middle East but long ago. I have a few on my "to read" list that sound perfect. Memoirs of a Geisha, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, and Peony in Love. And then I had read The Blood of Flowers. I think I put A Thousand Splended Sons and The Kite Runner on my list too. I have been reading young adult and kids books so much lately I need some adult books! I just got in the new Mercedes Lackey Elemental Masters series book too I think it's called Reserved for the Cat. And here are the others I just got in that look good.

Why I Let My Hair Grow Out by Maryrose Wood
War for the Oaks by Emma Bull
Rebel Angels (book 2 of a trilogy after A Great and Terrible Beauty) - highly recommend that one if you haven't read it.
The Red Thread by Rod Townley

I finished Reserved for the Cat -- it was pretty good although not as complex as some of the other stuff that she's done... which makes it pretty watered down overall I suppose, but I did enjoy it.

I just started a book about China in the 1970s that's supposed to be something of a fairy tale... I'll let you know if it's any good.

I've heard about that Emma Bull book for a long time, that it is supposed to be really good. I just haven't ever gotten ahold of it. In fact I should see if I can get it on paperbackswap....

And you should definitely, definitely read City of Dreaming Books. Once I got past the first ten pages I had a hard time putting it down.

What is the title of the book that takes place in China?

I have also heard about the Emma Bull book. It's supposed to be one of the first, or THE first urban fairy story. A predecessor for all the ones there are out there now. I don't know why I haven't read it yet...but I finally got a copy from the library. It's going to be the next one I read for sure. I am finishing up Emily Windsnap and the Castle in the Mist (which is book 3 of a kids series that is really cute).

I can't wait to read City of Dreaming Books. Now is that part of a series? It looked like there were other books that if they aren't in a series are linked somehow?

City of Dreaming Books is part of a series but they aren't really related chronologically -- they just take place in the same world. I haven't read the other ones and I don't think I missed anything from the other books. In any case it was good enough by itself to please me immensely.

I've seen the Emily Windsnap books but I haven't read them. (Yet....)

Wow. Well, I read a good part of the Baen Free Library! http://www.baen.com/library/ And the first fourth of Mere Christianity (the only part that was relevant). And the works of Peter Watts. Comes out to about... 20 or so.

I've been having fun keeping a list.

And you told me you would be! *thinks* Haven't read any books this year, yet. So I can keep a list for 2008.
